Alex Vari
EVP, Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, Alex brings more than 16 years of community banking experience to MainStreet Bank. Alex works closely with the executive team to shape the financial strategic plan for maximum shareholder value while providing valuable forward-thinking insight and supporting innovation.
Having worked with community banks throughout his entire career, Alex brings a unique perspective of the industry’s challenges and strengths, from the teller window to the board room. He began his career as a bank teller, working his way through college while earning a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of North Dakota. After graduation, he qualified as a certified public accountant (CPA) and joined Elliot Davis – a tax accounting, and consulting firm – where he worked exclusively with bank clients giving him a deep understanding of financial statements, internal operations, asset/liability management, and regulatory compliance for banks of all sizes.
Alex joined MainStreet Bank in 2018 and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2025. He previously served as the bank’s Chief Account Officer and played a crucial role in the bank’s transition to a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ. He continues to guide MainStreet Bank’s financial operations, leveraging his technical expertise and strategic leadership skills to ensure MainStreet Bank’s financial health remains strong as it continues to grow.
Alex is a graduate of the Virginia Bankers Association School of Bank Management and serves as a teaching fellow for the organization. He serves on its Young Bankers Steering Committee and as a faculty member of its Management Development Program, where he teaches emerging bank leaders the ins and outs of bank finance and asset/liability management. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of the ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter.
