Safer Internet Day
MAINSTREET BANK
At MainStreet Bank, we believe that being a community bank means more than just managing accounts—it means investing in the well-being and security of the people and neighborhoods we serve. As technology becomes more central to our daily lives, from how we shop to how we connect with family, staying safe online is a vital part of modern life.
That is why we are proud to join the global movement for Safer Internet Day.
What is Safer Internet Day?
Celebrated in over 100 countries and hosted in the U.S. by ConnectSafely, Safer Internet Day is a time for all of us to reflect on how we can make the internet a better, kinder, and more secure place. This year’s theme focuses on empowering everyone to use technology responsibly, respectfully, and critically.
Protecting Your Financial Future
As your local banking partner, your security is our top priority. Cybercriminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, often using “too good to be true” offers or social engineering to gain access to personal information.
To improve your digital wellbeing, we recommend these essential “banking-safe” habits:
- Verify the source: MainStreet Bank will never call, text, or email you unexpectedly to ask for sensitive information like your PIN or password. If you’re ever unsure, hang up and call us directly at our official Fairfax headquarters or your local branch.
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Adding a second layer of security to your banking and email accounts is one of the single most effective ways to stop unauthorized access.
- Monitor your accounts: Use our digital banking app to set up real-time alerts so you’re notified the moment a transaction occurs.
Safety for the Whole Family
- Start the conversation: Talk to your kids about cyberbullying and the importance of being “Internet Kind.”
- Establish boundaries: Set clear expectations for screen time and app usage. Parents can utilize device tools to set various controls, including daily time limits, specific app restrictions, weekly schedules (like Downtime/School time), and the ability to designate unlimited apps or grant bonus time.
- Be skeptical: Teach younger users to recognize scams, such as “free” in-game currency offers that are often used to steal login credentials.
Invested in Our Community, Invested in You
MainStreet Bank is deeply rooted in the areas we serve. We know that a safer internet leads to a stronger, more resilient community. Whether it’s through our “Making Change” initiative or providing educational resources like these, we are here to support your digital journey every step of the way.
